At exhibitions everybody asks me: “Do you believe that selenite possesses all those properties and healing forces about which you are telling now?” I give the same answer: “The main thing is your belief. If you do not believe in unusual properties of selenite, it is useless to put the stone on your raw. This won't help.”
The stone is an extraordinary healer. It helps from all diseases literally. Especially it affects women deeply, because it is a stone of the Goddess of the Moon, Patroness of all women. The legends about wonderful healings by selenite go in the whole world. The stone was used in Ancient Tibet, where people asserted that selenite cured the “fever of bones”. In Transcaucasia was considered that selenite helps to cope with stones in a urinary bladder. In Bashkiria men powdered with alabaster their wounds. Even we use it at our production often; it happens that we can wound our hands, and then the fastest way to stop the bleeding and to disinfect wounds is a selenitic dust. It is supposed that selenite can help for a headache, restore eyesight, cure an hepatitis, a splenitis, or a cholangitis. Also the stone helps to harmonize a state of the immune system of a human organism. It is considered that the contemplation of selenite helps for depression cure. It stops apathy and despondency; arouses emotions, and a wave of the most pleasant recollections.
Already in the Middle Ages cabochons were made of selenite. Such processing was considered as a medicament for a headache, for a high pressure, and drug for myopia. Women wore selenitic costume jewellery to receive the protection of the Moon, to become more beloved and womanly. In ancient times the best grades of the “gold gypsum” were named alabaster. Then medicaments, ointments, incenses were stored in selenitic vases with a narrow mouth; in such vases it preserved its smells and healing properties longer. Often such vases were not opened. The vases let out its fragrance through the microvoids in selenitic walls. There are many mentions of such vases in the Bible.
